Protecting lake interests is in everyone’s interest
The Wisconsin Association of Lakes (WAL) is the only statewide
organization working exclusively to protect and enhance the quality of
Wisconsin’s 15,000 lakes.
Whether you boat, fish, swim, canoe, visit our lakes for
their natural scenic beauty, or own property, our lakes are important
to us all. Unfortunately, our lakes face an increasing number of challenges:
the threat of aquatic invasive species,
changes in land use, water
quality decline, stress on fish and wildlife habitat,
and conflicts over how people
relate to and use our waters.
The continued quality of tomorrow's lakes depends on today's
decisions. The Wisconsin Association of Lakes (WAL) works with lake groups,
citizens, and the legislature so
future Wisconsinites will continue to have the right to boat, fish, swim,
and enjoy the natural scenic beauty of our special lakes.
Our goals include:
- developing a network of informed lake citizens with
the know-how and motivation to become highly active in statewide lake
issues.
- helping communities build a set of common goals, and
create local partnerships to implement lake protection programs.
- developing a strong base of lake organizations active
in local and county government decision-making.
