Working with the Legislature

The Wisconsin Association of Lakes advised conservation oriented legislators and the Department of Natural Resources on appropriate bills to protect lakes and their watersheds, and in turn private property owner's property values and enjoyment of their lake.

We call attention to bills that are favorable to lake interests as well as bills we feel would have negative consequences to lakes, if passed. Our positions on bills are guided by our mission and our Board of Directors, who represent regional perspectives from across the state. We encourage our membership to contact us with their opinions on lake issues.

Speaking with one voice for all lakes

Because we speak to the legislature with one statewide perspective on behalf of all 15,000 Wisconsin lakes, we recognize that our position may not reflect the specific needs or desires of every individual lake. In addition to working towards favorable statewide lake policy, the Wisconsin Association of Lakes provides technical assistance to lake groups to work with local decision makers to craft local lake policies that fit their lake's needs.
