Your support strengthens our voice for lakes Local lake people have a special connection with their lakes and can have considerable influence over their neighbors and local leaders. Whether lake enthusiasts volunteer to collect lake data, monitor boat landings, visit their favorite fishing spot, or manage their properties in a lake-friendly manner, everyone has a role in keeping our lakes healthy. WAL believes active citizen involvement at the local level is critical to sound lake management and protection. For lake concerns to be a factor in the decision-making process, state legislators need to hear from their constituents and WAL. But many of the challenges our lakes face are too big for even the most dedicated of volunteers to solve on their own. Aquatic invasive species, changes in land use, water quality and quantity decline, stress on fish and wildlife habitat, conflicts over how people relate to and use our waters are examples of issues that stretch beyond the borders of individual lakes. And many of Wisconsin’s 15,000 lakes do not have lake associations or volunteers speaking for them. Our statewide perspective includes all of Wisconsin’s special lakes. WAL keeps our members informed about information on key lake issues, educational events to help citizens better understand the needs of our lakes and challenges to their health, legislative activities affecting lakes, and opportunities for citizens to participate in the policy making process. Help us protect Wisconsin's lakes Your support is critical to our provide educational opportunities, serve as an advocate for lake-related policy, and ensure clean, safe, healthy lakes throughout the state.
